It’s the highlight of any school day – recess. This is applicable to any grade-schooler. But as parents, we pretty much have to put healthy and low-carb snacks in our children’s lunch boxes. Bear in mind that when a kid gains weight at such a young age, he will have a difficult time shedding the excess pounds when he gets older.

Cakes, candied cereals, ice cream, flavored popcorn, cookies, candies, muffins and all kinds of pastries may seem so appealing. I bet your mouth is watering simply by reading that passage. Sure these are low in fat, but take note, these are relatively high in calories.

But there is a way for us to satisfy our sweet tooth craving the Low Carb Way. First of all, you must have the control to not reach in for the chips and crackers in between meals, or else you’re engaging in a low-carb diet will turn out to be completely pointless.

A low carb snack must ideally have healthy fat, protein and fiber. If you are having eggs or jerky, you might as well have vegetables with it.

Here’s a rundown of low-carb snacks you can consider munching on: – Celery with tuna salad – Celery with peanut butter – Hard boiled eggs – Pickles and cheddar cheese – Berries and cottage cheese – Nuts. Best serve when kept in freezer. – Sunflower seeds – Pumpkin seeds – Jerky like turkey or beef. Find the low-sugar variety – Shakes. Make sure it’s low carb though – Cheese sticks – Sugar free jello – Apple slices – Sugar free yogurt flavored with berries – Lettuce roll ups on luncheon meat, tuna, or egg salad – Lettuce dipped in bean dip, spinach dip or other low carb dip – Ricotta cheese with nuts, fruit or seeds – Mushroom and cheese spread – Low carb snack bars

Take note though that just because these are low-carbohydrate, these snacks are healthy. It may be popular and has already dominated the snack food companies and market but as a consumer, you must still be careful when choosing the low-carb snacks you will provide yourself and your family.

First off, low carb snack bars. There are tons of snack bars to choose from in the grocery. Not all of them provide good nutrition. Some low carb snack bars are there to maintain phases of low carb diets because they still contain calories. The sugar they have contain alcohol. Alcohol sugars in low carb snack bars will be difficult to digest and result to gas.

If you choose to settle for low-carb cookie mixes, then the best we can recommend are the low-carb chocolate chip cookies mix and the low-carb peanut butter cookies mix. Simply because, peanut butter is already an example of low-carb snack and chocolate chip cookies’ sugar content is balanced out with the help of the eggs and butter (light) mix.

If you would like to try out low carb shakes, make sure to read the labels so you will have an idea of the nutritional content. Double check if the shake mix are low on glycemic.

As pointed out by Dr. Robert Atkins in his Atkins diet, the cause of weight gain is “stodgy” food like bread and potatoes. More often than not, dieters trying out the low-carb diet often complain that they miss eating bread. If it is any consolation, there are some low carb breads out there in the market. These low carb breads have added soy flour to the mix.

But that does not mean that this bread is wheat free. They are also not gluten free. So the best way for you to achieve success in the low-carb diet is to not eat bread entirely. Yeah, you will miss it but it is for the best.

Now, if you feel that you have been very good in sticking with your low-carb diet and deserve to have a binge day once in a while, you can do so. Does pizza sound good? Well, glad to inform you that there are low-carb crust pizza with healthy toppings that is most suitable for the low-carb dieter. Fresh marinara on pizza sauce added with goat cheese, basil, vegetables and tomatoes are enough for a dieter’s mouth to water.

Being on a low-carb diet does not mean that you will repress yourself, it only means you have to regulate what you put in your mouth.

There is possibly no effective weight loss diet plan without including low carb foods in it. Few years back the craze was with low fat or fat free diet for attaining and maintaining a healthy weight. In some ways, this craze was beneficial to health, but in some other ways, it was not. For example, fat free milk is good for health; however, low fat cookies may offer high calories almost similar to normal ones.

In recent years, the vogue aligns with low carbohydrate or in short, low carb foods. It is quite common to see in grocery shops that there are varieties of foods bearing low-carb labels on them. The list may include the food types of muffins, breads, pizzas, cakes, pasta, sandwiches, tortillas, cookies, beers and many others.

In general low carb diet prevents or strictly restricts bread, pasta and other starchy foods, particularly those foods made up of white flour. But it is not so rigid also; you can still have some bread while maintaining your healthy diet. There are a whole host of low carb foods available in the market. To stay on low carb diet, obesity is not the only condition. You can even switch to it, if you are just calorie conscious. Theoretically, low carb foods offer low calories, so logic says that these foods are helpful in maintaining health.

Research on Low Carb

Some studies claim that people living on low carb foods actually eat more than people in standard low fat plans, however, the former group still loses weight than the later group. However, the report is strongly controversial in nature such as Atkins diet, which claims that low carb foods actually consume more calories.

The research supporting the benefits of low carb diet claims that low carb diets are more rewarding, so they do not feel hunger. According to Atkins diet, people in low-carb, high-fat diets eat more than people in standard diet.

Requirements of Vitamin Supplements

If you are in low carb diet, it is essential that you must take vitamin and mineral supplements. In fact, we become overweight due to the fact of our addiction over eating foods high in carbohydrates, but lack in carbohydrate may result in nutritional deficiency. So vitamin and mineral supplements are necessary. It is always advisable that you should take your vitamin supplement before going to bed.

Water Cure

Water is life, water means life we all know that we can’t live without water. Water is also necessary to cleanse your system. It helps in maintaining proper kidney and liver functions. The usefulness of water temperature does’t really matter. Some prefer cold water, whereas some prefer to stay with lukewarm as well.

Complications during low carb diet

Some people report few common complications during their low carb diet program. One of such complication is bad breath. It occurs mainly due to ketones production. Ketones are produced when body fat is converted into energy. However, not all the ketones contribute to bad health, but many people simply quit from low carb program because of bad breath problem. In addition to bad breath, some people also experience intense odor in perspiration.

Additionally, the experience of leg cramps is also reported by few people on low carb diet. It is typically occurred during the initial phases of the low carb diet program. Inadequate vitamin and mineral supplements are believed to be the primary causes of leg cramps.

Controversy

However in practice, the concept of low carb foods is not what it is claimed. The benefits found from these foods are questionable. Some researchers even claim these foods as a way for nutrition loss rather than weight loss. Some of the weight loss programs suggest replacing carb foods with protein ones, but the level of calorie consumption does’t really differ. Moreover, the foods labels do not carry any meaning, because there is no definition of low carb approved by FDA.

A very common question that gets asked is this: Will cutting carbs help me lose weight quickly. In this article i will briefly explain the answer to this question, so please read on.

What are Carbohydrates(carbs)

Most people know that carbs are particular types of foods. But there are two types of carbs:

1. Simple carbs: Examples of these types of carbs are, sugar, white bread, potatoes, yams, sweets, noodles, pasta, rice, flour to name a few.

These types of carbs are fast acting carbs. What i mean by this is that when eaten they elevate your blood sugar levels quickly but also lower your blood sugar levels quickly thus making you tired and hungry after a short perion after eating them. When your blood sugar levels rise and fall rapidly you store fat quickly. So will cuting carbs help me lose weight quickly? At this point what is your answer? Still don’t know? Well read on.

I said earlier that there are two types of carbs. The second type is called complex carbs.

2. Complex carbs: Examples are brown bread, all types of vegetables, all types of fruits etc.
When these types of carbs are consumed they raise the blood sugar levels slowly and keep the sugar levels high for a long period thus allowing fat to be burned for longer. Also you will feel more energetic for longer because of the sustained high blood sugar and less hungry.
So will cutting carbs help me lose weight quickly? Still don’t know? Well read on.

You have seen the two types of carbs in action, so you may be thinking that reducing any type of carbs will answer your question, “will cutting carbs help me lose weight quickly”.

The answer to your question is this. Your body needs carbs but of the right quality. Complex carbs are found in foods that are rich in nutrients, vitamins and fiber. They use more metabolic energy in digestion. They reverse the internal aging process and strengthen the immune system. Since they are slow acting and more fat burning in nature the will help you lose weight quickly. So the answer to the question “will cutting carbs help me lose weight quickly” is yes but it has to be less of the wrong type(simple carbs) and more of the right type(complex carbs)

So you can see that cutting carbs will help you lose weight quickly, but its the simple carbs you have to cut down. So will cutting carbs help me lose weight quickly? You answer that question now.

It seems that every so called “health” expert disagrees these days about the topic of carbohydrates and whether the best diet is “low carb”, “healthy carb”, high carb, or some other confusing gimmick. With this article, I’m going to give you my opinion (a Certified Nutrition Specialist) on the topic of good carbs, bad carbs, low carb, and sort through this mess.

First, I’d like to state that I do not believe in extremely “low carb” diets. It’s simply just not a healthy way to eat, and almost nobody can stick to a super low carb diet for life. However, with that said, I do believe that one of the significant reasons that most individuals struggle to ever lose any weight is that they consume way too much processed refined carbs such as rice, pasta, bagels, bread, cereal, muffins, soda, juice, candy, crackers, and other processed junk that is not part of the natural human diet.

If you are consuming excess quantities of any of these types of refined processed carbs (even if you exercise regularly and vigorously), it is nearly impossible to lose any significant body fat over time. Nasty blood sugar swings and insulin surges (which can stimulate body fat deposition) are only one negative effect of overeating refined carbs… Eating too many carbohydrates also significantly increases your cravings and appetite making it harder to control caloric intake.

Even carb sources that most people think are “healthy” are really just excess calories that do not really contain significant nutrition density… and many types of breads, crackers, and cereals claim to be “whole grain” (made with whole grains does not mean 100% whole grain) through clever marketing although in reality, the first ingredient in them is refined flour, which just spikes blood sugar and stimulates an insulin release. After years of consuming excessive processed carbs, it becomes harder and harder for insulin to do its job and continue dealing with all of that blood sugar, and insulin resistance and eventual type II diabetes can occur in many people.

My opinion on this confusing topic of carb intake is that the majority of individuals struggling to lose weight would finally start to see some weight loss results by focusing on these types of changes to their diet:

1. Reduction in overall grain-based food types in the diet (rice, pasta, cereal, crackers, cakes, cookies, etc) and focus more of your diet on healthy free range, grass-fed meats and eggs, raw grass-fed dairy, and a whole lot of vegetables.

2. Instead of choosing grain for most of your carb intake, try getting the majority of your carbs from veggies, sweet potatoes (or yams), and a variety of berries & whole fruits (NOT fruit juices, which remove the beneficial fiber as well as other important nutrients in the fruit)

3. If you are going to choose to eat grains at all, focus on the most nutrient dense and fiber-rich portions of grains… the bran and the germ. This means that the healthiest ideas are to substitute oat bran for oatmeal, and use wheat germ & rice bran by adding these to your soup, salad, yogurt, cottage cheese, shakes, etc. This way you get all of the most nutritious parts of the grain without all of the excess calories and starches.

4. If you are used to eating large amounts of carbs what you can do to replace that usual food volume is to try replacing those calories with additional healthy fats such as avocados, nuts, seeds, nut butters as well as healthy protein sources such as grass-fed raw dairy and grass fed meat, whole free-range organic eggs, etc. Healthy fats and proteins are important to help satisfy your appetite, control proper blood sugar and hormonal levels, and help you to finally gain control of your weight.

With all of that said about healthy carbs and bad carbs, here is one of my favorite carb sources that packs a nice punch of fiber as well as contains a decent amount of antioxidants, vitamins & minerals…

It is sweet potatoes (and/or yams). I like to slice them into thin strips and sautee them with a few tablespoons of water in a pan for about 5 minutes for a quick healthy carb source for lunch or dinner (baking is a great way to cook them as well, but time consuming at over an hour). I like to finish the sweet potatoes off with a touch of grass-fed organic butter and some cinnamon and you have got yourself a delicous and healthy carb side dish… Enjoy!

Other great carb sources I prefer are quinoa, high fiber brown rice, oat bran, any and all berries and other high fiber fruits, and any and all vegetables.

Curb that carb intake and stop the body from entering a fat storing mode. Most people will eat foods with a high content of carbs, not eating the type of carb that nature intended. A release of insulin is a result of wrong carb intake. Food rich in carbs, contributes to major medical conditions like heart decease, cancer and diabetes. Food rich in carbs also add inches and speed up weight gain. Low carb diets are much too strict, not sustainable, and make your life miserable. Very low carb diets normally cause headaches, irritability and loss of sleep because of the lack of carbs. Strip That Fat without low carb diets or low fat diets.

Low carb diets will actually cause you to gain weight after the initial weight loss. Stay with a Program that will make you lose weight WITHOUT restricting your diet to “low fat” or “low carb” foods, rather eating the right calories. Natural carbs that appear in nature in whole foods like fruits, vegetables and whole grain are the essential carbs. The sugars in these carbs must be broken free from their chains, to enable fiber to be released in the bloodstream at a balanced rate over many hours to provide effective and lasting energy.

Processed carbs are stripped from all the bran, fiber and nutrients allowing the sugar to enter the bloodstream the moment they are ingested. The body naturally wants to maintain balanced food sugar, so it’s telling you to eat something to bring your blood sugar back to normal.

Body response to low carb diets:

Low carb diets force the body to use protein from food for energy instead of glucose. With this level of low carbs or no carbs there will be an incomplete breakdown of fat that produces a byproduct called ketones. Nausea, headaches, bad breath and dehydration are the result of low energy levels because of very low carb diets. Low carb diets will reduce fitness performance and the drive to exercise

Cutting out carbs from an eating plan is a short term weight loss solution. Stay away from low carb diets and lose more weight simply by eating the right metabolism burning foods. So curb that carb intake and Strip That Fat without low carb diets.

Low carb diet by Dr. Atkins continues as possibly one of the most accepted low carb diets on the market today. Low carbohydrate, high protein Atkins diet attractiveness has helped spring numerous similar diets who operate on the same values of high-protein, low-carbohydrate eating diet. Nowadays people who want to lose weight have a lot of high protein diets to choose from.

Tests have verified that high-protein, low-carbohydrate intake has numerous good effects as well as create considerable fat burning with no need to limit calories. Lots of people who make use of the low carb, high protein diet invented by Dr. Atkins have for a long time been reporting this effect. There are studies that show that low carbohydrate eating improves triclycerides, lowers blood sugar for diabetics and people with beginning diabetes and boosts good cholesterol (HDL). Low carb, high protein diet plan has been continuously confirmed to enhance insulin sensitivity, decrease blood pressure and cut blood insulin levels. If we judge it against diets low in fat, high protein, low carb dieters also lose a reduced amount of muscle mass.

Although not medically proven, there are numerous various positive effects testified by people on low-carb, high-protein diet by Dr.Atkins. Some of these include energy increase, reduced longing for candys, enhanced attentiveness, improved temper and decrease of depression kind of signs.

Nonetheless there are also several advantages that are exclusive to the high-protein, low-carbohydrate Dr. Atkins diet. If you are one of countless people who have been trying to lose weight with low fat diets in previous years you will get pleasure from eating all of those forbidden foods that once you could not touch. Butter, steak and cream are a regular element of low carb diet devised by Dr. Atkins. Many people enjoy eating foods once off limits to them. People on high protein diet devised by Dr. Atkins are permitted to consume their full of rich meats, cheeses and fats and oils.

Diet invented by Dr. Atkins is also undemanding to make use of if compared with majority of other protein high diets that are on the market today. There are a few of simple carbohydrate calculations that you are going to need to learn, but when you do that, you are going to be free to have a meal of any food you want from the acceptable food listing.

Dr. Atkins furthermore emphasized the need of finding your own individual carb level. Various individuals have unique degree of carbohydrate tolerance. While some of us put on weight on just 90 grams of carbs per day, other people can eat as many as 120 grams of carbs daily. During your ongoing dieting phase and pre-maintenance stage of the low carbohydrate, high protein diet by Dr.Atkins, you will ascertain your individual carb count that is going to help you establish your carb goal from now on.

The status of high-protein, low-carb diet devised by Dr. Atkins can even be a double-edged sword for the anyone trying to lose weight with it. Given that there is plenty of tips accessible about the low carbohydrate Dr. Atkins diet, which makes it simple to get resources and support, but can at the same time confuse you. There have been scores of Atkins books written and furthermore there are infinite amounts of websites that provide you with group support, information and tips. However nearly everyone has heard of diet by Dr. Atkins and almost has his or her own outlook about it. You need to be aware that there are scores of misconstructions around the world regarding the features of the Atkins diet, and you are going to, without a doubt, have to stand up for your newly discovered eating technique from time to time.

There are also some of the other downsides for using the high-protein, low-carb Atkins diet. You should count carbs in every piece of food you eat to be assured that you are keeping within your individual carbohydrate boundary. Additionally, there is the matter of Induction, the most intensely contested phase of the plan. Induction can be tough to come through if you have been on a diet that centers on carbs and sugar. Moreover, loads of individuals have a go at Induction and mistakenly judge that this is the method that the whole diet will be. They quit without even starting the genuine diet by Dr.Atkins.

Every now and then even if it does not occur very often, some individuals are going to live through a carbohydrate crash frequently during the 3rd and up to 5th day of the Dr. Atkins diet. Such sort of reaction is a result of their body experiencing the ketosis phase or using fat as fuel instead of carbs. The sensation is short-lived but lots of people trying to lose weight have sworn off high-protein, low-carbohydrate diets entirely because of this small accident.

Overall, with the few trivial shortcomings considered, high-protein, low-carbohydrate diet invented by Dr. Atkins continues to be one of the most used high protein diets because of one simple reason. It works. A lot of people have succeeded with the high protein, low carbohydrate diet by Dr.Atkins and the high-protein, low-carbohydrate approach to dieting.

Does a low carb diet actually work or can it potentially be harmful to you? People who have followed a low carb diet have seen successful results. However, these individuals quickly regained their weight after stopping the diet. This should not be surprising to anyone since no specific diet will work for everyone. Let me go into detail on a few facts and difference of opinion with medical experts out there.

When we think about a low carb diet we draw a conclusion that people are eating an unhealthy diet with no fruits or vegetables and people are following a high fat pork and bacon concept since the popular Atkin’s diet was introduced. Most will validate that this is only promoting heart disease and a short life span for everyone. Now, let me address a few points about low carb diets so you can make your own decision.

1. Researchers have stated that a low carb diet has improved people with high blood pressure and individuals who are diabetic.

2. People think that low carb diets discourage people with eating fruits or vegetables. A matter of fact, fruits or vegetables are the carbohydrates eaten when on a low carb diet.

3. Low carb is often considered no carb with most people. However, most authors have never stated to stay on a low carb diet but temporary for 1-2 weeks the most.

4. I believe the carbohydrate intake should be adjusted to that specific person.

5. A low carb diet will include inadequate amount of fiber. On the contrary and there are low carb foods high in fiber.

Foods that are referred to low empty carbs are foods not rich in vitamins, minerals, fiber, and other nutrients to make us healthier. Often people follow the quick results of a successful high fat and low carb plan. However, you will regain the weight quickly after you stop the low carb diet. The sensible choice or an adequate plan should consist of lean meats, low fat, healthy fats such as olives, avocados, nuts, and fatty fish. Results will promote more of a successful weight loss .

My thoughts and beliefs on a low carb diet would conclude it to be healthy or unhealthy depending on that person. What I mean is it depends if that person is selecting the right foods going into their body. Does that suggest we eat all beef, meat, or eggs with no fruits or vegetables in our diet? My approach is that you still need to include vegetables like broccoli, spinach, asparagus, leafy greens that contain phytonutrients or fiber that is important for everyone. When following a low carb diet it should include enriched foods rather than hot dogs, bacon, or pork as your protein intake. Choosing the correct foods is the key and eating reasonably through out the day that includes protein, healthy fats, and carbohydrates.

The most important question you need to ask yourself is “am i willing to make a permanent change in my lifestyle”? Making a diet change permanent is following a healthy diet. No diet out there will last if you are not ready to make those changes for yourself. When it comes down to it, the people who are successful or achieving a balanced weight have not only followed a healthy diet but included exercising in their life. So, what kind of exercise routine should I follow? Well lets leave that for another author since its time for me to grab a nutritious meal!
